How do we exercise dominion?

When my printer finally completed the computer command I had planned for it to perform, I was overjoyed. I hadn't been able to get it to reliably produce envelopes.

I had finally turned to God, something I should have done from the start. As a long-time Christian Science student, I understood that God is Mind, divine intelligence, Principle, to whom nothing is concealed or distant. God grants everyone of us—as man, the image of His being—dominion over all the globe, according to the Bible. That dominion is always present, even if we only notice impediments from time to time. Those obstacles, on the other hand, are suggestions of the mortal mind, not facts of our being. Understanding this paves the door for us to overcome them and exercise our God-given authority.

“Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth,” writes Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 14). Accepting the fact of this “Divine Life,” leads to the blissful liberation of “dominion over the entire globe,” which includes computers, illness, poverty, and homelessness—all physically based rules and ideas.

Most of us learn simple skills fast, such as tying shoelaces or riding bicycles, and therefore gain control over loose footwear or rolling wheels. However, we occasionally hesitate to exercise our God-given control over tasks we perceive to be more difficult, either due to a lack of interest or a fear of failing to learn a new talent. We may demonstrate ongoing dominion by doing each task, no matter how basic or complex it is.

God created man and then gave him authority, according to the Bible. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion,” says Genesis. (1:26). That doesn't imply God handed man authority over God, but it does mean that, as God's image and likeness, we reflect His authority in all of our earthly experiences.
