Who is Rory's true love?

Rory lusted over Jess for an entire season before ditching her high school sweetheart in order to be with him. Even Team Jess fans can confess that he wasn't terrific to Rory when they were together, and the relationship was shallow once it got going. That could have been for a good reason. It wasn't a serious relationship.

Jess contacted Rory several times after he left Stars Hollow to find his father in California, but he couldn't say anything.
