Place your desk in the power position
In feng shui, it is recommended that you situate your workstation such that you are in the “power posture.” This is the room's most remote location. You should be able to see the door while seated at your workstation.
Create a strong backing
By situating your chair so that your back is against a sturdy wall, you can provide powerful feng shui backing. If this isn't an option, consider lining your dining area with a row of lush plants.
Introduce water and plant elements
Incorporating water elements and plants into your workstation is said to have a favorable effect on your mood. A fountain with moving water could be a great addition to your workplace. Indoor air quality can also be improved with the addition of a living plant..
Opt for natural lighting
It's best to take use of natural light from the windows. Fatigue can be caused by yellow-tinted and fluorescent illumination, You should utilize incandescent full-spectrum light bulbs if you must use artificial light.
Hire an expert
Using feng shui concepts and aspects, a skilled consultant can assist you in organizing and decorating your office.
Feng Shui consultants can be found in your area through the International Feng Shui Guild's database.
Which way should my desk face feng shui?
Even if your bedroom has to double as your home office, you don't have to sacrifice flow when it comes to your workstation location.
This is the “power position” of the room according to R.D. Chin, a feng shui master and architect, who recommends placing the desk diagonally opposite from the doorway. Having this position gives you a dominating vision of the room, allowing you to see your area and think clearly about your situation.
Avoid sitting in a position where your back is to the door or against a large window, as these positions are thought to be overly distracting (believed to drain strength).
The most common advice from feng shui gurus is to avoid a workstation facing a solid wall, even if it's a space-saving option.
The desk is uncomfortably close to the bed. Consider purchasing a foldable screen to keep your sleeping area hidden from view.. As a result, there will be less reminders of daily stress when you're in bed. Avoid working from bed at all costs!
Which way should a desk be placed?
There you go! Study after study conducted on peak brain function has shown that the firing patterns of neurons (brain cells) in the thalamus (which controls sensory information and levels of awareness, among other things) are significantly different depending on the direction a person is facing according to the principles of Maharishi Sthpatya Veda (MSV), the sister science of Maharishi Ayurveda.
When a person's posture changes, the nervous system's cells respond. Neurons are activated when a person looks in a given direction. If you turn your head in a different direction, a different set of sensors engages.
East.
That is correct. It is clear from the research that facing east is the best option.
Peak performance and mind-body integration can be achieved by facing in the right direction.
North is the next best option. Avoid the South and West whenever feasible.
Tips:
Change the direction of your home or work station/desks to face true east if you are experiencing difficulties with attention, focus, decision-making, or any other mental activities.
As a last resort, if you can't get east, try to go north.
If you can't go exactly north or east, try to get north of east or east of north.
The way you sit doesn't just matter while you're sitting at a desk. When conducting business meetings, you'll be able to think more clearly and make better decisions if you're facing east or north.
You must, of course, take into mind the other parties involved. As a salesperson, you may want your audience to face east so that they can “clearly perceive” the benefits of your product.
Which is more important while giving a presentation: that the information is presented clearly or that the audience is better able to absorb it? Change the direction you're facing based on the situation.
* According to research, creative thinking is more prevalent in the east. The north is better for ‘clear thinking' than the south.
* Important Note:
The audience faces east, so if you ever invite me to speak to your group, I'll be pleased to face west so that everyone has a fair shot at understanding my jokes. They frequently require as much assistance as possible.
Have a Laugh: Speaking of Facing Certain Directions: Know any Technicians?
Three men were put to death in the French Revolution: a priest, an attorney, and a technician.
His Holiness replied “Well, Heaven is up, therefore I'll look up, so I can see where I'm going,”
In the guillotine, the Priest was positioned with his head facing up and the blade was lowered. They let the priest go because they thought it was a miracle that the sword stopped only inches from him.
The lawyer pondered this “It worked for the priest, so they placed him in the guillotine with his head up. After releasing the blade, the lawyer said he couldn't be executed twice for the same crime, therefore the execution was halted.
pondered the technician “So, what the heck? To which the technician replied, “It's time for him to be executed,” as they placed him on the blade of the guillotine “What's going on? It's possible to get this to function if you switch the red and blue wires.”
Face Your Desk Away From Visual Distractions
Having your desk facing the wall is favoured by some since it minimizes distractions the most by preventing you from looking out the window or watching people pass by your door. However, it might create a sense of isolation from the rest of the room. Depending on the size of your office, facing the wall could result in a cramped, claustrophobia-inducing workspace. If you have the space, you can place your desk in the middle of the room, but still facing the wall, to avoid this problem.
Is it bad to have a window behind your desk?
Even though I recommend you to set up your home office desk near a window, staring out the window poses a number of issues that might negatively impact productivity and personal comfort.
Why a home office desk facing out a window decreases your productivity:
- It's difficult to see your computer screen because the sun is stronger outside than on an overcast day. This causes eye tiredness and headaches.
- If you find yourself daydreaming or losing attention because of the beauty outside your window, you're not alone.
- You'll likely be facing the door. Your hard-wired vigilance response is activated when you feel your back is exposed in a busy household with family members “visiting” you at work. As a result, it becomes more difficult to concentrate and be productive.
Solution: Place your desk at right-angles to the window, facing into the room and door
- Restorative views of nature are only a turn away, allowing you to take a break from your work and recharge your mind.
- The ability to view the door, if you have a busy office, will keep your vigilance reaction from being distracted.

I was apprehensive about filming this live video of my home office set-up. Traumatizing to watch and hear yourself on film is common. A humiliating discovery: I speak really slowly. In order to see a version without you dozing off in between syllables, click the gear icon in the lower right corner of the screen (see image below). Change the playback speed from “normal” to “1.25” by clicking on the gear icon and selecting “playback speed.”
If you're going at this pace, you'll find the home office set-up portion between 13:08 and 23:30. During this stressful period, you are invited to watch the complete video to explore a range of techniques to improve your home life. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
My book, The Smarter Home Office; 8 simple steps to enhance your income, inspiration, and comfort has a chapter on how best to place and set up your workstation for a more productive home office.
Should my office desk face the door?
You may feel more at ease working from home if you have a beautiful view to look out on. Some prefer to have their desks facing the outdoor window, which may be on the other side of the doorway, rather than facing the front door. It's much easier to take a mental vacation by looking out the window and taking in the beautiful environment. As a result, you'll have a more positive outlook on life and a better work environment.
Many interior designers recommend placing the desk in the room's center facing the door rather than a window, even if a fantastic view is calling your name. For people who are easily distracted by the outside world, this could be an excellent option. Anyone who enters or leaves the office area can be seen by the camera.
Where should a desk be placed in a home office?
A well-placed desk is essential. Place your workstation near a window or other source of natural light. It's also a good idea to put your desk as close to a window as you can. Desks can be placed perpendicular to windows for those who find them distracting.
What color should your desk be?
For both good and bad, the colors of your business's workplace can have a big impact on the productivity of your staff. Choosing cool hues in the workplace might help boost productivity and efficiency since they create a sense of calm. Blue, green, purple, and brown are the most productive hues in the office.
Blue
A tranquil and relaxing color, blue is one of the most effective office colors. Colors that are lighter in the blue spectrum might also have a relaxing effect on employees. The capacity of blue to calm and relieve tension while also increasing productivity makes it an effective alternative for practically every workplace.
Green
One of nature's most calming colors, green is ideal for stimulating the mind. Green is a more vibrant and less conservative color than blue, making it a popular choice for office decor. As a rule, green is a cooler color, which means that its wavelengths are longer. Since they require less acclimatization, colors with short wavelengths are easier on the eyes. Employees can work for extended periods of time without feeling eye tiredness in offices painted in green.
Purple
For some reason, we don't think of purple as a good hue for the workplace. The color purple connotes opulence, quality, and awe. When it comes to creative businesses, such as design, the color purple is a popular choice. While blues and greens are more commonly used in the workplace, purple ranks as one of the top colors for boosting productivity in the workplace.
Brown
Brown is a calming natural color, much like blue and green. However, it has a slightly different effect on the workers.. More than any other color, brown has the ability to put people at ease. Instilling a sense of security, comfort, and credibility in employees is Brown's job. It is possible to create an environment that encourages people to be productive and to perform at their highest levels.
