Lord Shiva is claimed to have built the holy city of Kashi with his hands, which is why it is known as India's spiritual capital. Witnessing the aarti ceremony at night, when sadhus demonstrate their devotion by raising flaming lamps and waving incense, is a remarkable experience for people of all faiths.

We analyzed data from every country in the world to determine the world's most spiritual country, and Canada came out on top in our Global Spirituality Index.
Spirituality is a multi-faceted notion, and defining a spiritual country entails more than just looking at countries with a substantial religious population.
While religion was obviously a major element in our analysis (we looked at religious diversity, religious freedom, religious tolerance, and the religious population), we also looked at quality of life, wellness and mindfulness, and spiritual sights.

Results
After receiving excellent marks for quality of life and religious diversity, as well as religious freedom, religious tolerance, spiritual sights, and wellbeing, Canada was named the world's most spiritual country.
For us at Wayfairer, it was particularly interesting to see which of our own destinations ranked highly on the Global Spirituality Index, and we were pleased to see India rank among the top five countries due to its high religious diversity and array of spiritual sights, as well as our newest destination, Japan, ranking third. We were also ecstatic to see Thailand ranked among the top 20 nations.
Methodology
To construct our Global Spirituality Index, we looked at a number of characteristics for each country around the world in order to get a comprehensive picture of spirituality in each one. We looked at the following elements:
Every country was given a score from 1 to 7 in each of these criteria (7 being the highest). The Global Spirituality Index Score was calculated by adding each country's scores across these areas, with a total of 49 being the highest possible score.
The Global Spirituality Index was created by ranking the countries based on their Global Spirituality Index Score.

What is the most spiritual state?
According to a Gallup poll issued today, Mississippi is the most religious state in the United States for the second year in a row, closely followed by Utah.
According to the findings, 58 percent of Mississippi citizens are highly religious, as measured by attendance at weekly or near-weekly worship services and if religion is an important part of a person's everyday life.
The South is fully represented in the top ten, with the exception of the second place, which is held by Utah (56 percent highly religious), and the tenth, which is held by Oklahoma (48 percent).
In general, 40% of Americans are very religious, while 29% are somewhat religious, meaning they go to church but don't think religion is important, or they believe religion is important but don't attend services on a regular basis.
Vermont is the least religious state in the country, with only one out of every five citizens being religious. All six New England states, as well as Oregon, Washington, and Alaska in the Northwest, are among the least religious.
More than 348,000 interviews were performed in 2012 for the survey. The outcomes are basically unchanged from the previous year.

Finding the meaning and purpose of our existence is an important component of spirituality. While religion emphasizes customs, rites, and rituals, spirituality focuses mostly on our inner lives. Since the dawn of time, spirituality has been an intrinsic component of the Indian way of life. The Himalayas, the Yamuna, and the Ganga all inspire us to ponder the meaning of life.
India is a wellspring of spiritual wisdom and understanding. The Vedas and Upanishads, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and the Bhagavad Gita are ancient Indian texts that not only teach us morality and values, but also awaken us to the realm of spirituality. Consider the Mahabharata, the ancient Indian epic. Now, the Mahabharata is more than just a story about a battle between two families (the Pandavas and the Kauravas) for control of a country (Hastinapura). If it had only been about sitting on a throne, the story would have ended with the Pandavas' victory. Instead, the story concludes with the Pandavas and Draupadi renouncing the throne in order to embark on their journey to paradise. Finally, they reach the heavenly realm and blissfully rejoin the Kauravas. The epic's greatness stems from its emphasis on peace and harmony rather than the violence and slaughter depicted in it. The epic's message of love and fraternity is subtle, but the wise recognize that the meaning of the story is to achieve peace and happiness, not wealth and territories.
India is a melting pot of various cultures and religions, all of which have contributed to the spiritual atmosphere that exists here. Gurus and saints abound in our country, and great spiritual leaders like Swami Vivekananda have become spiritual ambassadors for this glorious country by becoming synonymous with Indian spirituality. It's no surprise that people from all over the world are drawn to India by its spirituality. Many weary individuals travel to India in search of tranquility and fulfillment. India is a bright and energetic country. It is the land of colors and spices, of Holi and Diwali, of rivers and mountains, of enchantment. This magnificent country will remain the spiritual heart of the world for all eternity.
