Sir John Woodroffe (18651936), sometimes known as Arthur Avalon, was a British Orientalist whose published writings sparked widespread interest in Hindu philosophy and Yogic practices. He studied Sanskrit and Hindu philosophy, particularly as it relates to Hindu Tantra, while serving as a High Court Judge in Calcutta. He lectured on Indian philosophy, Yoga, and Tantra and translated numerous original Sanskrit manuscripts. Many recent Western interpretations of Kundalini yoga practice are based on his book The Serpent Power: The Secrets of Tantric and Shaktic Yoga. It offers an academically and philosophically advanced translation and commentary on two significant Eastern texts: Tantrik Prnnanda Svm's Shatchakranirpana (Description and Investigation into the Six Bodily Centers) (1526) and the Paduka-Pancak from Sanskrit of a commentary by Klcharana (Five-fold Footstool of the Guru). “Kundali Shakti” is a Sanskrit phrase that means “Serpent Power.” Kundalini is supposed to be an internal energy that can be released through proper meditation techniques. I became really ill, waking up one night with a fever and severe chills that rendered me unable to move or walk. I was transported to the hospital because I couldn't stand up on my own. With excruciating body aches (especially in my hips), fever, and physical weakness, I stayed there for two nights. I was eventually well enough to leave the hospital without a diagnosis after IV antibiotics, X-rays, and observation. I have no idea what was wrong with me to this day, but I believe it was one of the Kundalini Awakening Stages.
