  • A dietary supplement containing silver is not recommended because it is not a necessary nutrient.
  • Silver can be found in air, water, and food, as well as in some hobbies such as jewelry-making or soldering, which can expose people to small amounts of silver.
  • Homeopathic treatments containing colloidal silver are also available. Visit nccih.nih.gov/health/homeopathy for more information on homeopathy.
  • Some medicinal uses for topical silver, such as in bandages to heal burns, skin wounds, or skin infections are appropriate. Preventive medications for babies' conjunctivitis contain it as well. However, colloidal silver-containing medications that can be taken orally are not yet available on the market as either prescription or over-the-counter products.

What colloidal silver is good for?

However, a number of companies promote colloidal silver pills as a one-stop shop for all of your health needs. In addition to reducing symptoms of viral infections like the common cold and COVID-19, they believe it can also strengthen your immune system and alleviate congestion in your chest. Colloidal silver has also been touted as a treatment for cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, and vision issues. Research does not support these claims.

Can you put colloidal silver in your mouth?

Colloidal silver, if consumed orally, is likely to be harmful. Colloidal silver is absorbed by the skin and other organs, where it is stored as silver ions. A permanent bluish tint might develop in the gums as a result of this.

How much colloidal silver should I take a day?

A daily dose of one tsp of colloidal silver is recommended, despite the fact that it is totally safe to take in any amount. During times of illness, it is possible to take additional doses.

Does silver fight infection?

Silver's bactericidal properties are well known. As a topical treatment for burns and chronic wounds, as well as a covering for both temporary and permanent medical equipment, it can help reduce or prevent infection. As a result, it is not clear how effective silver coatings can be in other areas, such as orthopedic hardware coatings, or how effective they are at preventing heart valve failure. It will be vital to keep an eye on these devices in order to better understand how silver helps.

As new infection-prevention gadgets include silver into their construction, an up-to-date tally is nearly impossible. It was the goal of this study to include the most common medical uses of silver. Despite the fact that additional antibacterial products have evolved for some of these applications, silver remains a useful component to the arsenal against illness and has few adverse effects. However, it is important to assess the benefits of silver-containing products against the known negative effects and alternative treatment choices available for the specific reason before making a decision.

Can colloidal silver cause liver damage?

Many organs, including the colon, bladder, pancreas, and renal papillae, were found to have silver coloring at autopsy.

Even in cardiac connective tissue and the skin's basement membranes were found to have fine black pigments (see Figure).

The patient's native liver had tiny granules in the basement membranes, while the newly transplanted liver did not.

There is no doubt in my mind that the patient has been consuming one pint of colloidal silver every day for the past 15 years. Many ailments, including the flu, cancer, diabetes, and HIV, have been claimed to be cured by this homeopathic medicine. Plenty of equipment and recipes may be found online “There are no regulations on “food supplement” silver treatments. When a 9-volt battery is connected to two silver wires in a tub of water, the result is colloidal silver. An electric reaction creates liquid silver elixir by drawing silver from a wire and dissolving it in water.

Following consumption, silver is permanently deposited in the skin and produces argyria's unique color variations, which are more evident in sun-exposed regions where sunlight converts the metal to an inert salt, akin to methods employed in photography. Although silver has been shown to permanently alter skin color and deposit throughout the body, the long-term effects of silver consumption on the body's other organs have not been conclusively demonstrated. As a result, argyria is not a contraindication to a liver transplant despite the fact that it alters the appearance.

Colloid silver formulas can be acquired by the general public, much like other homeopathic treatments. Although there is no scientific proof to support its use, public testimonials claiming that silver is the new panacea will continue to be widely reported. Physicians and patients alike need to be aware that colloidal silver is not the only option “The spring of youth.”

What is the purest colloidal silver?

Simply said, MesosilverTM is the most effective real colloid silver available on the market right now. In terms of particle size to concentration, it is the most effective and most cost-effective product available.

Can I drink colloidal silver?

Water, food, and even the air you breathe contain trace levels of this toxin.

Although the environmental and health implications of silver nanoparticles are unknown, colloidal silver is deemed dangerous to ingest because of this.

Argyria is the most serious side effect of long-term exposure to colloidal silver.

The deposit of silver metal particles in the body and on the skin causes argyria, a disorder that results in blue-gray skin. Organs other than the liver and kidneys can also accumulate silver (16).

Is colloidal silver good for joint pain?

An adolescent female was diagnosed with leukocytoclastic vasculitis after taking naturopathic drugs. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis instances caused by drug use have demonstrated to respond to removal of the inciting substance. As a result of quitting colloidal intake, our patient saw a significant reduction in the itchiness and irritation she felt across the affected areas of her skin. When she started taking steroids and colchicine, her recovery was much accelerated. For our patient, there was no need for a skin biopsy or histopathological confirmation of illness. Based on the patient's symptoms and reaction to treatment, a clinical diagnosis of leukocytoclastic vasculitis was determined.

Antibiotics, particularly beta-lactams, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors, propylthiouracil, levamisole-adulterated cocaine, warfarin, hydralazine, minocycline, indomethacin, and most recently trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole have all been identified in the literature as causing leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Many children in Japan and India have been diagnosed with leukocytoclastic vaculitis after receiving anti-tuber-culoid medication with rifampicin and pyrazinamide, respectively, although these cases are extremely rare. Anti-coagulants dabigatran and rivaroxaban have been linked to leukocytoclastic vasculitis. In a case reported in the Journal of Medical Case Reports, amputation was required due to leukocytoclastic vasculitis caused by Naproxen. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis and naturopathic medications and supplements have not been extensively explored or reported.

The product distributor's website claimed “interior cleansing” as the reason for our patient's daily use of a colloidal silver supplement in liquid form (warm tea). Silver colloidal is widely used in naturopathic and complementary medicine, despite the fact that it has not been thoroughly explored. Silver colloidal is a dispersion of tiny silver particles in a colloidal base. When used as homeopathic medicine to treat a wide range of illnesses such as malignancies, diabetes, and arthritis, the drug has not been licensed by the Food and Drug Administration. These conditions have not been shown safe or effective for the use of silver colloidals. We were unable to find any mention of negative effects on the website of the drug's distributor. According to reports, long-term and hazardous usage of silver colloidal can produce argyria (blue-gray staining of the skin) and argyrosis (deposits in the eye) which are permanent adverse effects if they occur. Silver colloidal was not shown to be associated with leukocytoclastic vasculitis in the literature.

Even in the absence of systemic disease, as in our case, the prognosis of cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis is excellent. In most cases, drug-induced leukocytoclastic vasculitis occurs as a localized illness, with only cutaneous symptoms, that resolves when the inciting drug is discontinued. The absence of fever and the presence of arthralgias and cryoglobulins, according to the International Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, indicate chronicity in leukocytoclastic vasculitis.

The International Journal of Clinical Rheumatology released treatment guidelines in 2013 that emphasize the importance of the disease's genesis and scope. Patients with systemic involvement need to be treated according to the most severely affected organ, with steroid and immunosuppressive drugs being taken in tandem.

Symptomatic treatment, including analgesics, antihistamines, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, compression stockings, and leg elevation, is always indicated in cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis. In the treatment of leukocytoclastic vasculitis, dapsone and colchicine, two common dermatosis medications, have been found to be successful. Pediatric renal insufficiency may be reduced with corticosteroids, according to various studies. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis requires additional study to determine the best methods of treatment and management. Patients with uncertain cause and recurrent symptoms are not being studied in large, randomized, prospective clinical trials for effective treatment and management of this disease.

As many over-the-counter supplements are promoted as “safe” and “no adverse effects,” the likelihood of patients sharing this information during medical history taking is low because many of these supplements are marketed as “safe” and “no side effects.” Routine evaluations should include discussion of over-the-counter supplement safety and any negative effects.

Does colloidal silver work for wrinkles?

In spite of our best efforts, we'll occasionally stumble across an ingredient that demands additional exploration in the world of skincare. Rather than gold, this time the color is silver. After copper and gold, it appears that silver is undergoing a renaissance of its own. This may be surprising, but it turns out that the use of silver in skincare isn't new. Before the development of antibiotics, silver was used to treat bacterial infections because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory characteristics.

Can you buy colloidal silver over the counter?

Colloidal silver is a mineral, and it can be found in nature. Silver is not a required mineral supplement, despite the claims of its advocates. There was a time when colloidal silver products could be purchased over the counter. FDA declared that these colloidal silver products were not safe or effective in 1999, and they are no longer available. When sold as a new drug without FDA approval, colloidal silver items claiming to be for medicinal purposes are now considered “misbranded” under the law. Currently there are no FDA-approved medications containing silver that may be taken orally. Homeopathic treatments and nutritional supplements continue to market colloidal silver products.

There are numerous online advertisements for the parts of a colloidal silver generator that can be used at home. They may not be able to tell if their colloidal silver is pure or strong if they make it at home. Colloidal silver, on the other hand, is one of the most dangerous and ineffective items on the market.

Many people continue to purchase colloidal silver as a dietary supplement and use it to treat a variety of conditions, despite these worries regarding its safety and efficacy.

There is no scientific evidence to support the use of colloidal silver for illnesses such as infections, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and a host of others. Using colloidal silver might also pose a health hazard. ‘

Is colloidal silver good for sinus infection?

Antibiotics also fail to eradicate fungal infections, allowing them to spread and worsen. It is also important to note that when antibiotics are taken systemically, their effects spread throughout the body even though they are just needed in the nose. Other infections can be caused by altering the body's microbiome.

Understanding the enemy

A double whammy awaits: First, you are using an active drug that exclusively kills bacteria to combat a symbiotic connection between fungi and bacteria. Another problem is that the germs can only be killed by using antibiotics. Antibiotic-resistant microorganisms will take over the feeding grounds that were previously occupied by the ones that were killed.

Making a bad neighborhood worse by murdering out only the weakest criminals is a prescription for disaster.

Many fungi can be found in the sinuses. They feed on mucus that lines the sinus passageways and create exotoxins that irritate the sinus membranes. Molds, germs, and viruses are constantly present in the air we breathe, and the immune system works hard to eliminate them.

An additional layer of fungus works as an insulator for germs, making the condition even worse.

2 The fungus converts the mucopolysaccharides into spores, which the bacteria can eat and thrive on. As a result, they are shielded from the immune system and from antibiotics, which are distributed via the microcapillary bed.

Searching for solutions

Only a partial answer can be found by using a systemic antibiotic to destroy the germs. Antifungals are also required in order to reduce the number of molds in the sinuses and shield germs from the immune system's and antibiotics' reach. 3

Furthermore, oral medicine administration imposes a heavy toll on the body, and only a small portion of that load makes it to infections. The infection must be treated with an antibacterial that is applied directly to the site of the infection.

Antimicrobials that can destroy all bacteria are also necessary. Antibiotics have three distinct mechanisms of action and are effective against three distinct types of bacteria. Antibiotics can only kill a small percentage of the organisms in a given environment.

You need a broad-spectrum antibacterial that kills all kinds of bacteria evenly so that you don't just eradicate the weak ones, and one that also kills fungus.

Antifungal and antibacterial properties of pure aqueous colloidal silver have been discovered, according to research (although it is more effective against bacteria than it is against fungi). It's better at killing some germs than others, but it's effective at killing all of them.

When combined with a surfactant (such as polysorbate 20) to promote cell penetration, pure aqueous colloidal silver of adequate concentration (more than 35 ppm) kills more than 1 million bacteria in less than 20 minutes.

4

Enhanced colloidal silver has been demonstrated to be considerably superior to sinus surgery or medications in the treatment of simple sinus infections.

For additional convenience, the nasal spray can be sprayed directly into the sinuses rather than taken systemically. As a result, the total amount required can be drastically reduced.

In this way, the patient is spared from receiving a potent antibacterial that would otherwise circulate throughout the body.

Protocols for use

It is common for a person with a sinus infection to have a lot of mucosal flow. In less than ten minutes, an antibiotic can be flushed from the area with this. 5 It is critical that the antimicrobial agent be supplied every 20 to 30 minutes in order for this therapy to be effective.

In addition to the antibiotic being carried away by mucus, bacteria and fungi can multiply by a factor of two every 20 minutes, necessitating frequent reapplication. Repeated spraying is necessary to keep up with their reproduction rate. To get the therapy to work, you'll need to apply it every 20 to 30 minutes.

As part of a holistic treatment to sinusitis, the right active agent, in the right concentration, at the right time, and in the right area is critical. As long as the patient does it correctly, they can lessen their illness while also protecting the typical microorganisms that live in their nose.

As someone who uses a Neti Pot, I can attest to its ability to reach all of the sinuses. Bacteria and fungi thrive in salt therefore the only benefit of utilizing it in the Neti Pot is that some would be rinsed away. 6

The nose can be closed with your fingers if you prefer to employ a potent antibiotic (e.g., enhanced aqueous colloidal silver) to fill the sinuses. More germs and fungus can be killed in 10 minutes than in a week with medications.

Colloidal silver flushed into the sinuses can sting, but if held in place, it rapidly finds osmotic equilibrium and the irritation diminishes. Doing this in the morning and at night is extremely effective in resolving tough sinus infections.

Does colloidal silver help antibiotics?

Antibiotics can become up to 1,000 times more effective if they are combined with low dosages of silver, according to a new study. Their findings could revive ancient antibiotics, especially those that have developed resistant to them.
